Day 9,10,11,12,13 – Life getting in the way

0jeff21st Jul 2009exercise, projects,

Life has gotten in the way of regular workouts for a few days.  Last Thursday we visited with some friends from college that we hadn’t seen in about 8 years.  Friday, we got stuck doing stuff for the new house out at the sales office.  We thought we were signing paperwork to begin everything; that wasn’t the case.  There were a few mistakes that needed to be corrected and a few things I had to take care of.  We were there way longer than we should have been.

The weekend wasn’t much better.  Saturday was spent washing and waxing Wendy’s car.  They I had yardwork to catch up on.  By the afternoon, I had to get parts to do the brakes on my truck and then we had friends over.  Sunday was spent doing the brakes on my truck.

It should have been a 2 hour job.  I’ve done brakes on three or four different cars and hadn’t seen this type of arrangement before.  The parking brake is basically a drum brake inside the disc brake.  Pretty ingeneous but a real pain to work on.  In my case, the shoes were siezed on the rotors.  In the process of getting the rotors off, the retainer pins and springs for the drum shoes got all bent to hell.

It was pretty obvious that things weren’t right as soon as I took the test drive.  Lots of rattles from the rear retention pins and springs.  Not wanting to pull the back end off again, I paid to have it fixed on Monday.  The shop said I was exactly right on what needed to be replaced.  They also agreed that they were a huge pain in the butt because of the location behind the wheel studs.  Oh well, now I know the trick for next time.  …Too bad it cost me $110 to learn it.

I did manage to do chest & back yesterday evening.  This starts week two of my P90x workouts.  I had written down what I did last time.  I was able to do more reps this time using higher-tension bands when they were used.  The only big change was I used the bands instead of the pull-up bar.

I know.  I’m a sissy.  The problem with the pull-up bar isn’t me or the bar.  It’s our current situation.  The house we’re living in now is pretty much sold.  I don’t want to tear up the house by using the door-frame bar.  It’s also tough to spot myself because the chair keeps sliding on the tile.  I think I’ll have to use bands until we get into the new house.  Unfortunately, that won’t be until November or December.

Today, I skipped plyo.  I took my MS shot last night and it’s really working me over today.  Head hurts.  Muscles ache (ones that shouldn’t be).  No energy.  I’m going to have to work the P90x around the Avonex somehow.  We’ll see how things work out.  Plyo tomorrow…
